Unit 6 Task 2 Proposal

Task 2 Proposal The genre I have chosen is Social Documentary, I have chosen this genre because I have a great interest in the artist John Bulmer who is known for his use of colour in his social documentary photography. The other reason I chose this genre is because I want to be able to create images that capture the contrast of living between Palma, De Mallorca, Spain and Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The ideas that I have will hopefully be able to represent the people and the city in both countries to see if there are any drastic similarities or differences in both countries. The photographers that have influenced me are Martin Parr and John Bulmer. This is because Martin Parr shows the reality of living in Britain with a comedic twist and John Bulmer shows England and it's more beautiful locations. Secondary research Photojournalism Robert Capa was a Hungarian war photographer and photojournalist. During the rise of Hitler Capa moved to Paris and changed his name to Endre Friedmann. He covered five wars which included the Spanish Civil War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, World War II (across Europe), Arab-Israeli War and the First Indochina War. For this specific photo of the Spanish Civil War taken by Robert Capa, I think it is a great photo because it captures a point in time that we wouldn't have seen otherwise and I think that the composition of this image is interesting. John Bulmer is a photographer famously known for his use of colour in photojournalism he started working at a young age and even worked for Sunday Times Magazine from their very first issue in 1960 till the 1970's. He then went on to filmmaking after the Sunday Times Magazine went into crime and fashion articles. Here are two photos of John Bulmer's work. This phot...
