Unit 6 Project evaluation
Project evaluation
The first task that we did was secondary research also known as task 1, this task was split up into three parts. Task 1a was genre research where we had to research eight photographers from four different genres. For this task, I started off with picking four genres which ended up being Photojournalism, Landscape, Architectural and Documentary. For photojournalism, I picked Robert Capa as my historical photographer because he seemed very interesting and had an amazing talent when it came to photojournalism. I then picked John Bulmer as my contemporary photographer who was famously known for his early use so colour in film. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest photographers to come from England.
For my landscape photographers, I picked Edward Weston as my historical photographer, the reason I picked Edward was that he created a mass amount of negatives using his 10 by 8 camera and he was known to be the best of whatever he chose to do be it still life, nudes and portraits. For my contemporary photographer, I chose Joe Cornish because he has a vast experience at his craft. Not only that but he has been photographing North Yorkshire for over 20 years.
For architectural I picked Julius Shulman as my historical photographer. I chose this photographer for his amazing work and the fact that Julius Schulman worked so hard for his dream of being a successful photographer. My next photographer is contemporary photographer Mohammad Reza Domiri Ganji who is best known for his work with Persian/Islamic buildings. For the documentary, my historical photographer is Margaret Bourke-White she was the first foreign photographer who was also the first ever female war photojournalist and known as one of the best photographers.
For my last photographer, I chose contemporary photographer Anna Fox who is mostly known for her combative style of high charges of colour and film. I also chose this photographer because she isn't well known but she has her own unique style and I like her photos a lot. For the next part of the task 1b, I had to choose a genre that I wanted to do which was social documentary, for this task we had to chose four photographers of which I chose my first historical photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson who is considered to be one of the best social documentary photographers out there. My next photographer was Jacob Riis who was a great social documentary photographer.
He wasn't only a photographer but a social reformer who helped the impoverished people of New York. Not only that but Jacob wanted to express his feelings in words and drawings but wasn't really good at drawing so he went to photography. My next photographer is Martin Parr who is wildly known as one of the great contemporary photographers. The reason I chose to do Martin was that he took a satirical look at the aspects of modern life in the social classes of England.
My last photographer called Tomasz Gudzowaty who gained international recognition through numerous awards the most notable one is the World Press Photo in which he succeeded nine times. I became interested in his work because he does most of his photography in black and white and because I chose to do film photography I wanted to look at all aspects of the film. The last part of this task was 1C where we had to create a mood board of what our chosen genre was. I included a variety of different photographers as well as colour and black and white film.
The next task was task 2 proposal where I had to include my genre which is social documentary, the photographers such as Martin Parr and John Bulmer. I also included the ideas of what I wanted to shoot and how I was going to succeed in it. The last thing I mentioned in my proposal was what film I chose and what colour film I was doing. The next thing I had to do was plan all of my shoots, I ended coming up with four shoots including the black and white and York shoot we had to do.
The next task was York photo-shoot review which was a full review of how the shoot went. After shooting it was then time for my review presentation where I talked about my genre, the photographer that inspired me, some evidence of photoshoots and who my target audience was. After my presentation I photographed my final shoot and evaluated all my images and decided on my final shots. After I evaluated everything I then went on to decided how my final exhibition images would be printed, sized and shape. The last task I had to do was target audience where I had to write around 350 words about who would go to my exhibition.
