Unit 33 Evaluation

Evaluation For the brief we were told that we would be doing a double unit which is two units together, the first unit was unit 33: Lens-based image making and the second unit called unit 8: Design principles. Throughout the brief we learnt about wide angle and telephoto lenses and the effects given by them. We then went on to discuss about design principles and how we would apply these principles within our own images. We were then told that our project for this unit is called portrait, the scenario was that we were being commissioned by a Sunday newspaper magazine picture editor to produce a series of portraits. This meant that we had to use the images we would take to create a magazine front cover and double page spread and then design it as well. Then we went on to talking about what a portrait is and the different types of portraits. After learning about portraits we then went on to analyzing magazine designs. Towards the end of the brief we got more information about how m...

Unit 33 Final images analysis

Image
Final images analysis   This image is of Joe doing an ollie nose grab off a ledge on Bridge street at 2:44pm October 8 th .  I took this image because I wanted to see if Joe could successfully land this trick off the ledge. The equipment I used for this image was my 18-55mm kit lens, triggers and a flash. I used my kit lens because I wanted to fit in as much of the image as possible. The shutter speed of this image is 1/640th of a second, f/3.5 and an ISO of 100. For this shoot I used natural and artificial lighting from my flash. After taking this photo I started to edit the tone, exposure and brightness of the image in lightroom. I had no problem with editing this shot but if I did this shot again I would wait for a time where people are not passing by. This image is of Joe again doing an ollie off the leaf sculpture near the Queen Victoria Hotel on October 8th at 8:31pm. I took this image because I wanted to capture the light hitting off the glass leaf and also t...

Unit 33 The portrait shoot proposal

Image
Proposal  Shoot 1 For my first shoot I will be taking photos of my friend Jozef. The reason I chose to shoot him is because he is a very talented skateboarder and I know that he will provide some awesome tricks to photograph. What inspired this shoot was a famous skateboard photographer called Joe Brook who has done a lot of Thrasher magazine covers but one of his most recent Thrasher photos inspired me to do this shoot with Joe because of the trick the skateboarder was doing in that picture. Friday 7th October will be the day I shoot this portrait and the location has yet to be determined. The lenses I will be using for this shoot are my 18-55mm kit lens and my 75-300mm zoom lens and my focal lengths will vary. For this shoot I will be using natural lighting and maybe use a flash if necessary. The equipment I will be using consists of a tripod, flash and triggers. For my images the target audience is for all sexes and ages that enjoy skateboarding.  Image that in...

Unit 8 Magazine research

Image
I found this image in a library book called MagCulture (741.652), to me this image has a retro style because the model is wearing clothing which looks like it represents 50's culture. The target audience for this magazine is for teens up until older adults, and this magazine is targeted towards people who enjoy fashion, art, music and design. The title is at the top of the image and is in a white bold text and then there is a smaller text underneath the name of the magazine stating what the magazine has included inside it. Then at the bottom of the image there is a bold black text highlighted in green to stand out from the black and white image even more. The cover consists of one main image which is a head and shoulders portrait of a women seductively looking at the camera. I would say this image has been shot in a studio because of the lighting used and solid background.  This double spread is from a magazine called Mayhem! To me this image has a modern style to it because...

Unit 33 Primary research analysis

Image
The technique I used for this image is called window lighting, I created this by getting my subject to stand within range of a window that had light coming through it. What I like about this image is the white lighting on their face from the early morning. Not only that but the expression of the subjects face, his posture and that he is the only thing in focus.  Although what I dislike about this image is how I not only framed it but the location I shot in this in because of how the light washes out the background but if I was to take this photo again I would've framed it better preferably by using a tripod and I would use a different location to shoot in. This is my second image which the technique again is window lighting except this photo is landscape instead of portrait. I like this photo because of my subjects expression and the lighting on his face. Although I dislike again how the image is washed out because of the background light. If I was to shoot this again I woul...
