Unit 6 Finalising your ideas

Image
Finalising your ideas From my first film shoot in Spain the results where great although I wish I had been more decisive about my shots and brought more film to take more shots. From this shoot I selected three of the images to be part of my final images.  Next was the York shoot which out of all the shoots didn't go so well although I would say that if I was to shoot it again I would go on a particular busier day.   The next shoot was black and white. I enjoyed this shoot because I like the way black and white film looks visually and how it can make the images look more dramatic. My last shoot was in Leeds and Bradford where I wanted to get as many shots of people and local buildings as possible.  Here is one of my final images I like the colour and exposure of the image and the shadows off the fence make the guy look like he's walking on spikes. The aperture and focus are great as everything is is in focus and the colour is really nice.  This next ima...

Unit 6 Project evaluation

Project evaluation The first task that we did was secondary research also known as task 1, this task was split up into three parts. Task 1a was genre research where we had to research eight photographers from four different genres. For this task, I started off with picking four genres which ended up being Photojournalism, Landscape, Architectural and Documentary. For photojournalism, I picked Robert Capa as my historical photographer because he seemed very interesting and had an amazing talent when it came to photojournalism. I then picked John Bulmer as my contemporary photographer who was famously known for his early use so colour in film. In my opinion, he is one of the greatest photographers to come from England. For my landscape photographers, I picked Edward Weston as my historical photographer, the reason I picked Edward was that he created a mass amount of negatives using his 10 by 8 camera and he was known to be the best of whatever he chose to do be it still life, n...

Unit 6 Ideas for exhibiton

Image
Mounting and Presentation For my exhibition, my Images will be photo print paper and the size of my final four images will be A3 because sadly ProAm doesn't do 20cm by 14cm. The colour of my images will be full colour and the texture will be matte. The shape of my images will all be square. For the exhibition, I will have four final images which show the similarities and contrasts between Leeds and Spain. These four images will be hung in the middle all in a row. My images will all be hung via bull dog clips to give it a simple yet elegant look.

Unit 6 Darkroom prints

Image
Here are my test strips, the first one is two different exposures. The first one is 2 seconds and then the second one is 4 seconds. The second test strip includes three different exposures the first one is 2 seconds, the second one is 5 seconds and the last one is 7 seconds.  This print has been exposed for two seconds and to me is perfectly in focus. The framing, however, is a little odd as I can't frame to save my life. I also cut off the corners as my own style.  This image is also exposed to two seconds, however, I think that it came off too dark and the framing is off but overall the image is in focus.  This image has an exposure of two seconds and is mildly out of focus. The framing, however, is quite good.  This is the same image with the same exposure of two seconds but it is in focus and has worse framing. This image has been exposed for two seconds and is in focus, however, the framing is bad.

Unit 6 Analysis of all shoots

Analysis of Spain shoot I spent a week in Spain, I was prepared with all of my gear sadly I only brought 3 rolls of film and I only got to use one due to the fact that my boyfriend used the other two. The photos that I did manage to take were an overall success, however, I wish that I had planned my shots out more considerately so that I used the roll effectively instead of going a bit trigger happy with taking landscape shots. Although I did get some great social documentary photos that I am proud of.  All of my photos were in focus and well exposed, however, when scanning I can see there was dust on the film so I will have to rescan. I think that the shots that I took in Spain fit with my target audience as it represents Palma. If I was to shoot this again I would travel further to a more populated part of Palma as I did stay in the more rural part of Palma. I also would experiment and do some double exposures which would feature the water over a picture of scenery or pe...

Unit 6 Target audience

Target audience I think that the types of people who would be interested in my work would be people who regularly go to art galleries, art exhibitions and people who generally like photography. I think that these people are going to be interested in my work because it will show the contrast of England and Spain which I think people will be quite interested in. I also think that the demographic of people would be all ages but if I were to take an educated guess from my research I would say people from the age of 16 to 35. Who regularly visit art exhibitions/galleries.  I definitely think that my work would be used commercially because it is creative, artistic and eye-catching. I would say that my final three shots would all have different uses starting off with the first one which could potentially be a homeless leaflet to promote awareness of the growing population of homeless in the Leeds area.  The other two shots would probably be used as artwork that would either...

Unit 6 York photo-shoot review

York photo-shoot review On the 25th of April, we went to york where we took photos of our chosen genre which for me was the social documentary so I tried to get as many photos of the public around town. I noticed that on this particular day there weren't many people around which wasn't great for my particular genre so I had to wait for the rush hour times around city centre where I tried to get as many shots of people and the town as possible. I managed to get lost around york as I used google maps and it took me 30 minutes out of town so I was at a disadvantage when taking photos and I also got caught in the huge hailstorm as I was making my way back to town. I then met up with the rest of the group and waited for 20 minutes until the hailstorm cleared a little. We then went to the railway museum where we looked at all the trains and blended in with all the tourists. After looking at what seemed 100+ trains I then went to the train station where I waited for the train bac...

Unit 6 Task 2 Proposal

Task 2 Proposal The genre I have chosen is Social Documentary, I have chosen this genre because I have a great interest in the artist John Bulmer who is known for his use of colour in his social documentary photography. The other reason I chose this genre is because I want to be able to create images that capture the contrast of living between Palma, De Mallorca, Spain and Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The ideas that I have will hopefully be able to represent the people and the city in both countries to see if there are any drastic similarities or differences in both countries. The photographers that have influenced me are Martin Parr and John Bulmer. This is because Martin Parr shows the reality of living in Britain with a comedic twist and John Bulmer shows England and it's more beautiful locations. I have a few ideas but the main one is to be able to capture the people of Leeds in popular Leeds places vs the people of Palma in popular Palma places. The second idea is to...

Unit 6 Secondary research task 1B

Image
Social Documentary  Henri Cartier-Bresson was a French humanist photographer. Who has been considered as the master of candid photography. He pioneered the genre of street photography and conceived photography as capturing a decisive moment. His work has inspired many photogra phers including the great Martin Parr. Henri loved the fact that the Leica cameras were so small and he even customised his own by painting the shiny parts of the camera black so he wouldn't stand out.  Jacob Riis was a Danish-American social reformer, journalist and social documentary photographer. He is known for using his photographic and journalistic talents to help the poor, impoverished in New York City. Those impoverished New Yorkers were the subject of most of his photography. Riis had thought some time about how to express more than his words could, so he tried drawing which he wasn't very good at until he tried photography. Even though the camera lenses and photographic plates at ...

Unit 6 Secondary research task 1A

Secondary research Photojournalism Robert Capa was a Hungarian war photographer and photojournalist. During the rise of Hitler Capa moved to Paris and changed his name to Endre Friedmann. He covered five wars which included the Spanish Civil War, the Second Sino-Japanese War, World War II (across Europe), Arab-Israeli War and the First Indochina War. For this specific photo of the Spanish Civil War taken by Robert Capa, I think it is a great photo because it captures a point in time that we wouldn't have seen otherwise and I think that the composition of this image is interesting. John Bulmer is a photographer famously known for his use of colour in photojournalism he started working at a young age and even worked for Sunday Times Magazine from their very first issue in 1960 till the 1970's. He then went on to filmmaking after the Sunday Times Magazine went into crime and fashion articles. Here are two photos of John Bulmer's work. This phot...
